Summary:
At 1850 hours on May 5, 2017, Jailer Jocelyn Machuca went to separation cell 8 where inmate Cox was held.
She advised that when she went to the cell, she didn't see inmate Cox. She advised that she knocked on the
door and called out to him. She then called to the control picket to open the door. Once the door was opened,
she observed Cox sitting on the floor at the end of his bed. His legs were straddling the stool at this table She
advised that she shook Cox and called out to him several times. Machuca said that she then called the
control picket for assistance. Jailers attempted CPR and used an AED, but were unsuccessful. EMS arrived
on scene but was also unsuccessful and found him to be deceased.
