The patient, identified as Devin Giles, was attempting to remove medical restraints applied by hospital staff. Officers assisted clinical personnel while they resecured the medical restraints to ensure the safety of the patient and the staff. During this interaction, Mr. Giles raised his arms and moved towards those present. It remains unclear whether the movement was intentional resistance, confusion or a non-directed attempt to remove the restraints. Officers remained only for the duration necessary to assist with the restraint application and exited the area once the patient was secured. They were later informed that Mr. Giles experienced a medical emergency. Staff were unable to provide a specific timeline as to when the medical emergency began.
