Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On Monday, September 20, 2021, at approximately 0730 hours, Houston Police Department Officers
assigned to the Major Offenders Division were serving an arrest warrant at 5350 Aeropark Dr. #3203. The
warrant was for the Suspect, Deon Lee Ledet, who had outstanding narcotics related warrants. The officers
knocked on the door and a female occupant answered the door. The female advised that the suspect was
inside the residence. The officers called out to the suspect to turn himself in, so that he could take care of his
warrants. While still attempting to make contact with the suspect, the suspect began to fire his fully automatic
pistol at the officers, immediately striking two police officers. Three of the officers on the scene returned fire,
causing the suspect to attempt to flee using the rear door of the apartment. An additional officer was
maintaining the rear perimeter and fired at the suspect as he exited the rear door. The suspect retreated into
the apartment and exited the front door where he began to fire additional rounds at the officers at the front of
the apartment. This time the suspect was using a rifle and three officers responded to the threat by returning
fire. The suspect was struck multiple times and did not survive his injuries. One officer was killed in this
incident and another received two gunshot wounds to the abdomen.
