Jones Street, Beeville Texas. Two uniformed Beeville PD officers responded to the location and arrived in the area a minute later at 06:34 hrs. and were flagged down and informed that a man was having a mental episode and was armed with a knife and was inside his residence a 904 W. Jones Street. The two officers approached the house and heard a man yelling from inside the residence. As they stepped onto the porch, they observed an adult Hispanic male in the front room through the living room window. As officers attempted to talk to him from the porch area, they observed a knife in the male’s hand and gave verbal commands to drop the knife. Instead, the male ran towards the officers and crashed through the front window and attacked the officers with the knife in his hand. The two officers retreated and again gave verbal commands to the male as the male continued to advance towards the officers, still armed with the knife held in is his hand. The officer closest to the male deployed his Department issued taser, but it had no effect upon the assailant, who continued towards the officers in threatening and aggressive manner. The two officers continued to back up to maintain distance and give verbal commands. The male continued to charge the officers with his knife held in a threating manner and was within 3-6 feet of the officer in the lead, Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 7 --- PAGE BREAK --- when that officer fired three shots at the male, striking him in the torso.
