Yes, mark which Under Restraint: restraint devices were used Type of restraint Type of Restraint: Handcuffs Summary of Incident Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters) Summary: On August 29, 2019, Texarkana Community College Police Department received a call that a male matching the description of the suspect in previous thefts on campus had been observed entering an academic building on campus. Officers responded and two officers wearing police uniforms made contact with a male later identified as Darren Corneilus Boykin on the second floor of the building in the hallway as a third officer was still arriving to assist. Officers were attempting to identify him by asking his name and if he was a student of Texarkana College when he pushed away from officers and fled from officers on foot. Both officers pursued him but only one officer was able to follow him from the building. Darren Boykin was pursued and taken into custody several blocks from where the foot pursuit began but the officer was only able to handcuff one hand as Darren Boykin laid on the ground. The two other officers arrived and one assisted with handcuffing Darren Boykin. He was transported by a Texarkana Texas Police Department officer for Texarkana Community College Police Department to the Bi-State Justice Center. Upon arrival and attempt to have him exit the patrol car it was determined he was not responding and emergency medical care including CPR was started. An ambulance was called to the scene and he was transported to a medical facility for treatment but was pronounced dead at 6:51 pm.
