Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On Wednesday, February 23, 2022, Houston Police Department patrol officers were dispatched to an Assist
the Officer at 7500 Bellaire Blvd., PlazAmericas Mall. Upon arrival officers met crowds of people exiting the
mall stating that, a black male wearing a blue shirt had gotten into a physical altercation with an officer inside
of the Casanova clothing store, and the male suspect took the officers weapon, shooting and killing the
Officer.
Arriving patrol officers entered the mall and located the suspect coming from the second floor down an
escalator wielding an ice pick (puncture tool). Officers utilized voice commands from behind cover from the
1st floor but, the suspect refused to comply with orders. The suspect began charging at the officers. Officers
discharged their firearms striking the suspect. The suspect fell, got up and attempted to flee. Officers utilized
a less lethal weapon (Taser) causing the suspect to fall to the ground. The suspect continued to resist and
officers had to utilize forced handcuffing to get the suspect under arrest.
Officers located Deputy Neil P. Adams deceased with multiple gunshot wounds in the Casanova clothing
store. Deputy Neil P. Adams' weapon was located inside of the Casanova clothing store with all the
ammunition expended. The suspect was transported to Ben Taub Hospital where he later died from his
injuries.
