Under Restraint: No Summary of Incident Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters) Summary: ~~On Sunday, July 31, just after 11:00 PM, the Alvin Police Department was notified by a female Alvin resident that her estranged husband, Curtis Alfred, 28, was on his way to her home in the 300 block of North Bates Street. Ms. Alfred advised her husband owned a handgun, but was unsure if it was in his possession at the time. The wife also warned that Alfred previously stated he would not go back to jail. The Alvin Police Department held an open felony warrant for Assault stemming from an incident in the couple’s home just days earlier during which Alfred assaulted his wife. When officers arrived in the area they discovered Alfred’s vehicle parked, running, but unoccupied several blocks away from the home. The officer’s located Alfred near his estranged wife’s home, but when they attempted to contact him he fled on foot into a wooded area. The officer’s observed that Mr. Alfred appeared to be trying to conceal something in his waistband as he ran. The Houston Police Department dispatched a helicopter to the area to assist with the search. Officers from the Brazoria County Sheriff’s office and Alvin Community College Police Department also assisted in the search which spanned approximately one and a half hours. During the search of residential yards and heavily wooded areas the suspect was seen several times. At approximately 12:50 AM, officers spotted Alfred running southbound and then cross over the railroad tracks. Just after he descended the track embankment and out of view the officers heard a single, muffled gunshot. As the officers gave chase and crossed the tracks they observed Alfred lying in the ditch with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Alfred was pronounced dead at the scene.
