Cabler also had pending charges which he had been previously arrested for, including Burglary of a Habitation and Possession of Substance in Penalty Group 1. When he was booked in to the Red River County Jail, Cabler was asked the questions on the standard screening form for suicide and medical/mental/developmental impairments. Cabler responded that he was not thinking of killing or injuring himself on the day he was booked in to the Jail, and responded "no" when asked if he was feeling hopeless or had nothing to look forward to. Cabler told the booking officer that he had attempted suicide two months prior to being booked in to the Jail. Cabler was housed in a single person cell due to past history of inflicting injury upon himself. Nineteen days later on May 5, 2019, Cabler was discovered during a routine cell check hanging in his cell. Cabler had tied a white towel around the top rail of the shower and looped his jail issued pants through the towel. The legs of the pants were secured around Cabler’s neck creating a noose. Cabler’s feet rested on the floor which indicated he had the ability to stand up to prevent the hanging. The cell where Cabler was housed is equipped with a motion activated camera which captured the incident. The Texas Rangers were contacted to conduct the investigation into the death of Cabler.
