Summary:
Officers responded to a report of a car crash in the 3200 block of W. Bay Area Blvd. involving a black Nissan
Altima that struck the left curb on February 11, 2022 at 8:32 p.m. The reporting person advised the driver was
acting erratic and screaming. When police arrived, the driver was identified as Chiemeri Collins. She was
unable to answer questions and was uncontrollably shaking. Medics was called to the scene to check the
driver and provide aid. While waiting for EMS, the driver was sitting in the driver's seat, shaking, sweating and
not making any sense in her responses. Items inside the vehicle indicated that alcohol was present. Medics
arrived to administer aid and the driver was transported by Friendswood EMS to HCA Clear Lake Hospital. An
officer followed the ambulance to the hospital and after consultation with the criminal district attorney's office,
she was left in the custody of hospital personnel. Officers followed up at the hospital to check on the driver's
status and discovered that she was pronounced deceased at 10:20 p.m. The medical examiner provided case
number ML22-0746. The death was determined to be accidental - toxic effects of methamphetamine.
