Under Restraint: No Summary of Incident Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters) Summary: On October 11, 2022, at approximately 12:00 p.m., departmental officers in a special response team began positioning themselves to execute a search and arrest warrant for Bobby Daryl Kellum at 1104 Cazey Loop, Franklin, TX 77856. The warrants were for the first degree felony offense of aggravated assault against a public servant. The team waited several hours for the suspect's mother to leave the residence. When she left, she told officers that the suspect had a shotgun and pistol as well as a violent disposition toward his pending arrest. Starting at approximately 7:55 p.m. on October 12, 2022, the officers saw Kellum yelling at a DPS aircraft and searching for something with a spotlight. The officers later saw Kellum wearing a gas mask. At approximately 8:40 p.m., the officers began to approach the residence in vehicles. Kellum moved to a covered patio with his spotlight and wearing his gas mask. Kellum fired his handgun and moved to the front door where officers returned fire. Kellum then fired a single pistol round into his head. He was later pronounced deceased at the scene. Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 6
