the officer encountered the male suspect and attempted to speak with him. Immediately upon the uniformed
officer making contact with the suspect, the suspect produced a firearm (handgun) and began to shoot at the
officer. The officer subsequently began discharging his duty weapon at the suspect. During this exchange of
gunfire, both the officer and the suspect were struck by gunfire.
The suspect fell to the ground and the officer began to render aid to the suspect for his wounds, but the
suspect was ultimately pronounced deceased on scene by the Houston Fire Department at 1612 hours. The
Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences was notified of this incident and sent investigator Jasmine Garcia
to conduct the initial scene investigation. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences conducted an
autopsy of the decedent and ruled his death as a Homicide due to multiple gunshot wounds documented
under ML26-1097.
The officer was treated on scene for a non-life-threatening wound he received from the suspect. No other
parties were injured during this incident. The suspect was identified through the FBI via fingerprints with
assistance from the Jordanian Embassy.
