Custodial Death Report :: Page 6 of 7
--- PAGE BREAK ---
On Friday, October 25, 2022, around 0753 hours, a citizen called 9-1-1 and requested the police due to male
striking her vehicle with a flagpole and cracking her windshield as she drove in the 7700 block of Long Point
Road. Other citizens also call 9-1-1 to report the suspect for Aggressive Panhandling. A uniformed Houston
Police Officer, riding alone, assigned to the Northwest Patrol Division responded to the scene and located the
suspect at the corner of Long Point Road and Wirt Road. The officer confronted the suspect to detain him, but
the suspect became aggressive, produced a knife, and quickly walked directly toward the officer. The officer
held the suspect at gunpoint, gave him commands to drop the weapon and increased his distance from the
suspect. The suspect stopped advancing toward the officer after pushing the officer back beyond his patrol
car. He then returned to where he was initially standing and took an elevated position on a brick structure by
the roadway and continued to refuse the officer's commands to drop the knife.
The suspect, still armed with the knife, walked southbound on Wirt Road, grabbing the large flag with metal
flagpole as he went. He walked southbound on Wirt Road, grabbing the large flag with metal flagpole as he
went. He walked south on the sidewalk and the officer followed, continuing to give the suspect commands to
drop the weapons and to stop while also calling for back-up. The suspect then abruptly turned to face the
officer and came towards the officer with the weapons still in his hands. The officer discharged his duty
weapon four times and struck the suspect. Officers provided immediate first aid until the Houston Fire
Department arrived and pronounced the suspect deceased at the scene.
