Summary of Incident
Summary of How the Death Occurred: (max. 30,000 characters)
Summary:
On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at approximately 0041 hours, the Houston Police Department (HPD) officers,
wearing department issued uniforms and driving in a marked HPD police vehicle, attempted to arrest
Alejondro Corona Jr., DOB 8/23/1982, at 2500 S. Wayside Drive, Houston, Harris County, Texas, 77082, for a
traffic violation and two felony arrest warrants. Corona evaded the arrest on a bicycle for approximately one
mile before dismounting from the bike and running on foot. Two officers pursued Corona into a residential
neighborhood. This incident is documented under HPD Case #418656-26 and the officer’s body worn
cameras (BWC) recorded the actions.
While running after Corona on foot, one of the officers gave verbal commands, advising Corona to stop. The
officer recalled observing Corona slow down and Corona then used his right hand to reach into his right
pocket. At that time, approximately 0043 hours, the officer discharged his department issue conducted energy
device (CED), at Corona, striking Corona with two darts. One dart attached to a backpack Corona was

carrying and the second dart struck Corona in the left lower leg. Corona fell to the ground in a grassy area in
front of a residential home at 2706 Delafield Street, Houston, Harris County, Texas, 77023.
Corona did not appear to strike any object during the fall. While still on the ground, the officer handcuffed
Corona behind his back, using two sets of handcuffs linked together, which provided less resistance. At 0045
hours, Corona displayed signs of having a seizure. The officer immediately placed Corona on his side, in what
is referred to as the recovery position, to keep Corona’s airway clear and open. The Houston Fire Department
(HFD) and HPD supervisor was notified to the scene.
At approximately 0058 hours, Corona was conscious and began yelling and kicking the officers. At this time,
an officer attempted to hold Corona’s legs down as Corona was kicking. At the same time. Another officer
was attempting to control Corona’s upper body.
At approximately 0100 hours, an HPD supervisor arrived on scene to assist the officers. The supervisor along
with one of the officers then lifted Corona from the ground and place Corona in an upright seated position on
a couch that was in the front yard. Corona remained sitting until HFD arrived to assess him at 0105. HFD
EMS immediately transported Corona to the Ben Taub Hospital at which time he was admitted for care. At
that time, Dr. Silas Henderson advised that Corona was in critical condition and experiencing hypertension
and was under assisted breathing.
HPD Officers were assigned to the Ben Taub Hospital to watch over Corona while he was being treated. HPD
officers remained outside of the room and Corona was not handcuffed or retrained while receiving care. At
1237pm, Ben Taub Hospital Staff informed HPD Officers that Corona was pronounced deceased by Dr.
Mitchell.
